Chemical Composition of Fipronil Insecticide

  • Chemical Name : 5-amino-1-[2,6-dichloro-4-(trifluoromethyl )pheny1] methylsulfiny1]-1H-pyrazole -3 – carbonitrile.
  • Chemical Formula: C12H17Cl2NO3
  • Molecular Weight: Approximately 261.18 g/mol

Fipronil Structure

  • Phenyl Group- In which a dimethylbutyl substituent.
  • Ethylurea group – Ureide structure in which the ethyl group attached.

(i) Suspension concentrate

(i) Target Insect

Fipronil mainly affects glutamate gated chloride channels which are important for reducing the nervous system. it binds to these channels and prevents them for open. (ii) Oral Medication

(2) Agriculture uses

(i) Soil treatment

  • Termite control-  We use 0.05-0.1% fipronil in soil, to make solution, we dissolve 0.5mg of it in 1 liter of water
  • Crop Protection- Fipronil is applied at 0.5-2 kg par hectare.

(ii) Seed treatment

For Seed treatment fipronil applied at the rate of 0.25-1.5 ml par seed.

(3) General pest control
